John Young
December 22,1930 - July 17, 2010
Forty years after giving up a successful university career in commercial art, John Young began his artistic odyssey again at age 64. The forty year hiatus in business was not a total loss. Business required extensive travel to many parts of the world. His camera and his wife as a model turned many a trip into imaginative collage albums. A continuing source of inspiration as he paints from memory, composing, creating patterns and using pigments, the material of expression that capture the sensual, spiritual essence of life itself.
“If Young had to categorize his style at all, he would be most comfortable calling it surreal impressionism”, Toronto Domenic Nicassio, in a cover story on John Young last June 2004.
Since going public with a solo exhibit at the prestigious Gallery Gevik in the Yorkville district, Toronto, in 1998, John Young is now part of over 120 private and corporate collections in Canada, USA, Europe and Mexico. Publicly collected by schools, universities, hospitals and private clubs in both the United States and Canada. His work is also part of the permanent collection at Saint Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, which awarded him an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree LL.D. at Spring Convocation, May 1, 2005.

Young’s final painting was “Windows of the World” it can be viewed at the Toronto Congress Centre.
